What I'm discovering about playing bass:

1. It's fun as hell
2. It's "slimming"
3. It gives you great insight to musicians you play with...
4. You need callouses in weird places
5. The audience appreciates you but many times don't know it
6. The other musicians know for sure they appreciate you
7. If tempo changes, it's your fault
8. Mini vans aren't so bad, after all
9. You don't need a hat to be cool
10. Even the banjo player shows you respect

Bass players, add more if you got 'em!

I'm not a bass player, but I have noticed that no one notices the bass player until they aren't there....

This is true.  One of the worst things is to be jamming for several hours, and the bass player leaves.  The sound of the jam just goes down hill.  Just not the same without a bass! [confused]

This is true. I will tell you what I noticed. When I am listening to music with my ear buds I can't hear the bass. Then, if I push my ear buds in really tight in my ear I can hear the bass, and it makes a huge difference. It sounds so much better. I wish I could find some nice ear buds that reveal that incredible bass without shoving them down into my ear.
