Hello Bluegrass friends. I am researching the option on placing ads on this site. I know most all sites have ads. I do not want the ads be a distraction. I want to add a service for the members here. I am not sold on using a company like Adsense which places ads for you on your website. I am concerned they will not place ads relevant to our members.  So, i am checking on approaching individual companies that would benefit members here. companies like string companies, instrument companies, etc. I just want to let everyone know what we are researching for the future. Any feedback or suggestions are more than welcomed.

Ads, done correctly, won't bother me any. I do get sick of popups and having to watch an ad in the middle of a video.

oh my gosh I do to. I hate when I am trying to read something and an ad pops up in the middle and you can't read until you click the "x"  and sometimes the "x" doesn't appear right away. I just really want to have some thumb ads on the side or somewhere out of the way where you can click on them if you are interested. It will help pay for maintenance of this site, which is low right now, but will cost more as we grow, and will offer relevant products or services for Bluegrass enthusiasts. Thank you for your feedback.

The thumb ads are not distracting to me.  It would be cool though, to see bluegrass related ads.

I agree. I think it would be nice to see some small ads that relate to Bluegrass. I think it would be an added service for this site.

Jeff,
Ads don't bother me as long as they're not bothersome. I don't like sounds that aren't asked for or flashing messages or lights. What you describe would not have any negative effect on the site, I think. I just hope they are respectful of the nature of it.
Thanks for considering the user's perspective.

Thank you. I am researching this, to be able to apply ads so they are a benefit to the site and not a distraction. Of course, this will be a new thing so let us hope I get it right the first time. I appreciate the feedback, because ultimately  this is the members' site, I am just trying to give everyone the proper platform for Bluegrass fans to get together.

A friendly fyi... the new giant ad banner presently at bottom of screen prevents from posting new topic (button covered). There's a workaround by pressing "ctrl -" and can zoom page out enough to see the button to post (then "ctrl 0" will zoom back to default.

But on another note, if it wasn't there I assume the twitter/fb/G+ linker bar won't interfere with this ability? Hate for added functionality to reduce other more basic... functionality? [confused]

If it's temporary while trying to figure it all out then it's all good my friend! Just wanted to let ya know button was hidden.

I'm not a fan of the new Ad button - I definitely won't come back here if that stays.

Yeah. Sorry About that. That ad was too large and placed terribly. I apologize. I am working on it. Bear with me. I tried to move it different places and it stayed in the same place. So we may have some glitches but I will get it right eventually.
